Our Month In 9 Squares – April 2020

Dear April 2020,

April, You are usually a busy and event-filled month, but with quarantine in full swing it was not our usual April.

We filled the month with homeschooling, at home fun and soaking up as much outdoorsy time as possible. We loved being creative with painting and sidewalk chalk, long bike rides and splashing around on the backyard water slide. Honestly, it has been so much fun!!! We have embraced the quarantine lifestyle and besides missing our friends and family, we have enjoyed our new normal. Don’t get me wrong I am excited for the day that we can go on dates again and enjoy my girlfriend time!

Even though we were inside… we also enjoyed a simple yet perfect Easter and 2 BIG birthdays. Thank goodness for Target and Amazon, we were still able to throw amazing in-home shindigs. Quarantine birthdays are surprisingly GREAT! Kenise turned 2 and had the time of her life eating cake and playing with new toys. And 35 wasn’t spent exactly how I imagined, but I enjoyed eating and drinking the day away with my hubby while binging McMillions, Michael Jordan – The Last Dance & Tiger King. (PS- McMillions is by far one of the best documentaries we have watched – So good!)

BUT, the biggest and BEST part of April 2020 was welcoming Kingston Porter into our family. The sweetest little Schoodle has taken over our hearts and home. He has made every day exciting and honestly we couldn’t be happier with our 4lb little buddy!

So there you have it! We didn’t let quarantine ruin our month. Instead we embraced it and now looking back I couldn’t be more thankful for it! Some of my favorite memories to date, were made in April… In the comfort of our home! May, we are looking forward to what you have in store, with no expectations!!!

Our Month In 9 Squares – March 2020

Dear March 2020,

Where to begin… March 2020 you were completely unexpected. We started out the month with life as usual – busy sports schedule and school activities. We then jumped in the car on day 1 of spring break to enjoy snow and mountain weather with friends on a ski trip. Little did we know that when we got home, we were home for good.

This month has taken some crazy turns. But, after all that has gone on, we are just so grateful to be together and healthy. With Covid-19 wreaking havoc on the world, we have spent the rest of the month safe at home and soaking up family time.

With school now canceled for the rest of the year, April is looking to be a month of homeschooling, family bike rides and embracing more social distancing. BUT we are going into it with a smile and determination to look on the bright side and continue to be grateful! Grateful for health, love, family and thanks to technology we get to stay in touch with those we love. April is going to surprise us with some very special family time! Even though it isn’t at all what we expected, we are looking forward to it.

Dear April 2019,

April, oh April, you are my favorite month and you know why! You are filled with beautiful weather, my babies first birthday, and oh yeah… My 34th birthday this year. We had so much fun closing up spring soccer and taking a break from the busy spring sports season. BUT, most importantly April brought gratitude. We are so thankful for Easter – He has risen indeed!

May, I can already tell that you are going to fly by! Looking forward to the end of school and the beginning of summer break. NOT looking forward to the scorching heat around the corner, but oh well, bring on the summer!

Our Month In 9 Squares – December 2018

Dear December 2018,

You were the best!!! Christmas time is always the best time, but now that we are a family of 5… Everything was better than ever! We filled the month with family holiday functions and made sure the girls knew the real reason for the season – Jesus – Love came down! From live nativities to Santa, we did it all and made so many wonderful memories along the way. The best part of the month had to be our first Christmas Vacation and it was one we will never forget. Getting away to cold weather and indulging in Christmas spirit made this Christmas season our best yet! And it was so much fun watching Kensie enjoy her first Christmas! Thank you December 2018 for a month we adored.

We are so excited for 2019 and a new January of family-fun!

Our Month In 9 Squares – November 2018

Dear November 2018,

What a great month!

You were a month filled with gratefulness, thankfulness, and the reminder of kindness. November, we filled you up with great moments and treasured times… Mainly Kensie’s first cross-country adventure and our hubby/wife trip to Washington D.C. DC was beyond words – FABULOUS! We also celebrated daddy’s birthday, Thanksgiving, our first girl-only STAYcation slumber party and Christmas came early this year with decorating the house and setting up the tree.

November you were good to us, but we are so excited for Christmas and the holiday month of December! Bring on Jesus’ BIRTHDAY!!!

Our Month In 9 Squares – July 2017

Dear July 2017,

You were a very toasty month for us in AZ so we enjoyed our California beach getaway. You were also a month filled with milestone moments for our first born. She got her first haircut, started Kindergarten and celebrated her fifth birthday! So many sweet and bittersweet moments. Our littlest one started dance and it has become a highlight of each week. There is something so cute about a 2 year old fluttering around in a leotard and tutu.

We have so much to be thankful for and looking back at these 9 photos is such a great reminder to be present and enjoy every minute. #feelingblessed

August, my only hope is that you bring more monsoon weather and of course more FUN!!!

She’s Two Fancy | 2nd Birthday Party

My baby is two so you know what that means – PARTY time!

Since we did the big first birthday party, we decided to scale back this year and just celebrate with a few close family members. But, just because it is a small party doesn’t mean it doesn’t need a festive theme and cute decorative touches! I decided to hit up Target (one of my favorite spots) for all of the birthday decor and as usual I found more than enough goodies.

Fabulous, Fun-Loving & FOUR

Today my sweet little girl turns the big FOUR! She is silly and yet dramatic, corky and yet meticulous, cautious and yet full of life! I call her well-rounded. My husband calls her confusing, ha! No matter what we call her, we both agree she makes every day a joyful one and I can’t believe she is such a big girl now.

Paisley Joy, you are such a delight to be around, and I am so thankful to call you mine. I adore that you aspire to be amazing everyday and that you love your family more than words can even express. You are as beautiful on the inside as you are on the out, and I’m beyond thankful for you: my little mini-me and my best buddy!

31 and Relevant

Today is my birthday and I am turning thirty… plus 1 year, YAY! I am not one to obsess on turning another year older. To me, age is just a number. What matters to me is looking back at what I have done with that number and being thankful and proud of my time spent here on earth. I have been married for almost 8 years, I have 2 little girls under the age of 4 and a very happy home… this is what makes me cherish each passing year. I want to look back and think that my time has been well spent (relevant). What a shame it would be to look back one day and realize that I didn’t make an impact, or that I succeeded in many things, but that none of them mattered, or to realize that I hoarded God’s blessings and didn’t share them with others.

I recently stumbled upon this fabulous article from RELEVANT Magazine – 15 Things to Start Doing By the Time You’re 30.

I know what you are thinking; “Jenna… you are turning 31”, and you are right. But it is never too early, or too late, to start working on positive progress in our lives.
