Now that Arizona has hit the triple digits, splash pad season is upon us. With the amount of time we spend outside and as an Arizona mama of two fair skinned girls, that means we need to take sun protection seriously. One way I do so is always being prepared, and since we are always on the go, I like to keep a splash pad essential bag in my car at all times. This keeps us ready for any adventure that comes our way! I have found that there are a few essential items to have in your bag to keep you SUN-ready, but there is one that you can’t leave home without… Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen Baby!
What to pack for your kiddos… Splash Pad Essentials
Large Tote Bag: I prefer to use a large mesh tote bag. I like that the bag is see thru so that at a glance, I can always get an idea for what is inside. I find that bags made with the mesh material are easier to keep clean and faster to dry out!
Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen Baby: As a mama with sensitive, light skin and two littles following in my footsteps, I never leave the house without the best sunscreen for my daughters. We love Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen and it is always the most important item I pack in my splash pad bag. Blue Lizard® Baby has unique zinc oxide formulation and provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protections, and it is dermatologist and pediatrician recommended which makes it loved by this mama. I am also thankful that the Blue Lizard® Baby is paraben-free, chemical-free and fragrance-free. My daughters love Blue Lizard® Baby because it comes in a patented technology smart bottle. When the bottle is exposed to harmful UV sunlight the white bottle turns pink, and it’s a simple reminder to my girls that it’s time to apply (or re-apply) their sunscreen! And because they think the color change is cool, they willingly ask for more sunscreen with no fuss… Mom-Win!
If you are looking for Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen just visit your local Walmart and find their convenient summer sunscreen display. You can choose between Baby, Sensitive, Sport and Face options. Mamas, please make sure you consult with your pediatrician before using any sunscreen on a child younger than 6 months old. If your child is older than 6 months old, it is recommended that you use the Blue Lizard® Baby and Sensitive products to minimize risk of skin sensitivity.
Sun Accessories – Towels, Sunglasses & Sun Hats: Just like we need to protect our skin from the sun, we also need to protect our eyes and head. I always carry sunglasses and sun hats in my bag to add extra facial protection for my girls. There are so many cute options available, so my daughters love wearing them. When it comes to towels, I have found that when you are trying to dry off littles, towels with hoods are the way to go. They come in cute patterns or with their favorite cartoon characters on them, and they also make for a fun cape when playing “pretend”.
Water Bottles: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. When your littles are running around in the sun and water, they need water more than you would think. Keep them cool, healthy and hydrated.
Extra Clothing: No little one wants to get in the car soaking wet, so I always keep a packing cube in my bag that has a change of clothes, extra diapers (both water diapers and regular diapers), a package of wipes and wet bags. Once my girls change out of their swimsuits, I throw them into wet bags to then take them home to dry, these bags help keep the rest of the items dry. Also, if you are not near a trash can and your little has a dirty diaper, these wet bags are lifesavers!
Snacks: You can never have enough snacks! I like to fill a smaller bag or packing cube up with goodies to keep my girls occupied when they are not splashing in the water. I usually pack a cracker option, applesauce, a fruit snack and a granola bar; I have learned it is better safe than sorry when packing snacks – the more the merrier!
Toys & Activities You would think the splash pad would be enough activity for your kiddos, but lets face it, they can get bored easily. I pack a waterproof basket full of toys with us in the bag for each adventure, that way the kids can bring the whole basket of goodies with them in the water. Balls, cups, scoops and water toys make the experience extra special. I also love to bring individual bubbles for the girls to play with. Look around your local Walmart for more water toys and ideas, your kids will love you for it!
Let’s Not Forget The Mamas: One thing I have realized as a busy mama is that our hands are always full and our minds are always filled with ways to provide for our kiddos, but we can’t forget ourselves. I recommend you make a mom-only clutch to keep in your bag. I keep my keys, cell phone, chapstick, sunglasses, gum, wallet, protein bar, water and my favorite Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen in mine. That way I have everything I need within an easy grab, because lets face it… we need to fuel our bodies and protect from the sun as well!
What outdoor activities do you have coming up?
Remember a well packed bag of essentials will alway make your sunny experience more enjoyable, especially with your littles!
So have fun and keep your kiddos safe in the sun this summer, with Blue Lizard® Baby.
