I am much more me when I’m with you. – Datebox

For our 8th wedding anniversary, I wanted to share a special date with my husband, but I was looking for something a little outside our box. Ironically enough, a friend of mine recommended something inside a box: a Datebox.

Datebox is a subscription box company that you pre-order online and every month a unique box containing everything you need for a fun and creative date is delivered to your door step. Each month the box has a different theme and activity inside that allows you an opportunity to create a special memory.

I ordered us the June Datebox and the surprise theme was Growth! The box was filled with everything we would need to create an herb garden; clay, chalkboard paint, brushes, chalk, soil and the seeds. But, it didn’t stop their… they even provided a Q&A talking points section to grow deeper while crafting, a curated Spotify playlist, Sour Patch Kids and a lemonade mix… they thought of everything.

Now… in full transparency, gardening of ANY kind is not really on my husband and I’s talent list, or even our fun list… so we definitely had to embrace this idea with an open mind, and not be too attached to the potential disastrous outcome! Our lack of skills became acutely obvious, as we didn’t exactly have the easiest time building the pots out of the clay as you will notice in the photos. In fact, to call these clay structures “pots” is definitely a stretch!… But that is okay, the giggles and laughter we shared while trying to mold them was what made our Datebox date so much fun and definitely memorable!

Creating & baking the herb garden pots out of the clay

It’s time to chalkboard paint the herb garden pots. It was fun snacking on our Sour Patch Kids and listening to our Spotify playlist.

Once the paint had dried, it was time to label our pots and get to planting!

With the provided soil and seeds we built our herb garden.

We enjoyed sipping on our lemonade, reading over the provided talking points and watched our garden grow.
